Lights Flickering . . .

What about you? Do you still have power? (And if you don't would there be any way for you to answer this question?)  About half an hour ago, our neighbors (a house full of UMASS college students) took to the hill in front of their house and in a frenzy of what I can only describe as storm-related giddiness, engaged in some spirited football tossing. That's all done now. Once they got drenched and cold, they took cover inside. Barometer is falling precipitously, at 29.16 Hg at the moment. Windy, rainy, a solid storm brewing outside.

  1. Still have power, but the wind is really picking up. Did a run to the gym right before the state of emergency kicked in...got home with one minute to spare. The gym was packed, and they had signs saying they were closing at 4pm. Planet Fitness NEVER closes.

Just heard from friends who have no batteries. They tried four different stores, but everyone was out. Told them if the power comes out to come over for pans of cheesy scrambled eggs a la sterno. And my plan is to make gravy over sterno for the leftover chicken in the fridge. Yum. It's not like I WANT the power to go out, but it is kind of exciting. Probably because it's still light out. After dark I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the power stays on!!

  2. Things are really starting to blow out there, but we've still got power. We even made it all the way through a movie here at home--"Cold Souls," a choice that somehow really matches the mood here with Sandy!

Got a great tip from my sister to brew a pot of coffee and keep it in the fridge so that if power goes out, you can still have coffee--iced or at least cold--in the morning. Done.

    Hang in there!

  3. Okay, seriously terrifying run to the mailbox and back, under swaying electric wires, bending tree branches, and cold driving rain (not a lot of it, but definitely wet). Back inside, safe and sound, with my pile of junk mail (okay, there could have been something important). You never know - our mailbox has not infrequently bitten it in high winds.

  4. And now the barometer has fallen to 29.11 (for those of you who keep track of these things).
